BMES Computational Team is a year-long, computational research project.
The project will culminate in a paper and poster, which will be submitted to competitions and conferences. The team will present their year-end project at the BMES Technical Projects Symposium in Spring Quarter.

2026 - 27 Project
Logic-Based Optimization of Gene Regulatory Networks
Project Description
This project aims to build a computational framework that uses Boolean logic and SAT solvers to model gene regulatory networks and find optimal combinations of gene states that could drive desired biological outcomes, such as maximum protein production or activation of apoptotic pathways without needing expensive wet lab experiments. This project aims to achieve these outcomes through the use of public biological databases such as Reactome and Kegg to provide the basis of our boolean logic and the UCLA’s Hoffman2 computing cluster to help provide computational power for the programs.
Estimated Time Commitment
We will have a mandatory weekly group meetings.
Fall: 2-4 hrs/week
Winter/Spring: 4-6 hrs/week
