Academic Counseling
Our academic workshops are adjusted to fit the needs of every bioengineer. Whether you're a first-year or a fourth-year, interested in medicine or industry, there will be something for you to learn at our numerous workshops offered each year.
Class Planning Workshop
Once the Class Planner is released for future quarters, the academic chairs host a Class Planning Workshop to connect and advise students. The workshop is often held during dinner at Bruin Plate (UCLA dining hall). Upperclassmen help students develop 4-year plans, talk about their favorite professors, and offer advice on how to manage the quarter system workload. For more help on specific requirements, students can contact the bioengineering counselors. |
Alumni Panel
BMES hosts an annual Alumni Panel to connect students with UCLA Bioengineering graduates. Alumni answer questions about their careers, reasons for pursuing a graduate degree, and experiences at UCLA. The Alumni Panel reconnects former classmates and faculty and aims to give undergraduates the opportunity to learn more about the opportunities available to them after they graduate. |
Graduate School Infosessions
Visiting graduate school representatives speak at Graduate School Info Sessions throughout the year. These representatives discuss the admissions process and their respective programs. If your program is interested in hosting an event at UCLA, feel free to reach out to the academic chairs at [email protected]. |
Graduate/Medical School Panels
BMES hosts an annual Graduate/Medical School Panel, which includes current professors, graduate students, and medical students discussing their academic journeys after their undergraduate careers. The panel aims to help those who are interested in attending graduate school to determine which path is best for them by learning from the advice and perspectives of panelists. Panelists also help mentor students through the process of applying to and choosing a graduate or medical school. |
Research Mixer
The BMES Research Mixer is designed to help undergraduate students who are interested in research learn about ongoing research on campus and obtain a position in a research lab. BMES invites current graduate students and postdoctoral researchers from labs within the Bioengineering Department to meet one-on-one with undergraduates to discuss their research projects. In addition, undergraduate attendees are able to hear advice from their peers to learn about what getting started in research is like. |
LinkedIn/Resume/Interview Workshops
BMES hosts several workshops throughout the academic year where upperclassmen and alumni help undergraduates fine-tuning their interview skills, build a strong resume, and create a stellar LinkedIn profile. These workshops provide a casual environment for students to learn from their peers to prepare for applying to internships, full-time jobs, and graduate/professional schools. |
