We know how important getting that research experience is to the bioengineering experience, so good thing we had so many researchers ready to share what they've been working on! Thanks to all the labs that came out to share their research and also offer positions to our passionate undergrads. Additionally, we hope everyone enjoyed the lab tours! For those interested in industry positions, Medtronic Neurovascular will be coming back next week for more internship opportunities!

We hope everyone was able to use what they learned at our Infosession Workshop last week at our Baxalta Infosession today! We were happy to hear about the exciting opportunities available from UCLA BE alumni, Viviana and Melissa. It's great to see where the graduates from our department are currently at and nice to know that they're happy to reach back to BMES with industry opportunities. Further build those inter-bioengineering relationships at our quarterly mentorship dinner tomorrow on the Hill! If you do not live on the Hill, make sure to load up on our Bruincard, and for those with Premium plans, there are plenty of hungry upperclassmen willing to help take those swipes off your hands :)
Can you believe that it's already midterm season? We hope everyone was able to get some fun in before the hardcore studying starts at the BMES events this week. We had our first collaboration with 3D4E for a hands-on workshop on 3D printing. Thanks to 3D4E for teaching us how to use AutoDesk Fusion 5! This week we ended with a scrumptious social out in Ktown for KBBQ! We hope everyone were able to have their fill on delicious meat and got to meet other fellow BEs. Good luck on studying, and don't miss our How to Get an Internship Infosession next Tuesday! We have a ton of industry infosessions coming up, so come out to learn how you can make a good first impression.
We hope everyone had a wonderful winter break! We have an amazing array of events planned out for you this quarter, and we hope everyone enjoyed learning about them at our Winter General Meeting. We loved seeing everyone that came out, and hope you enjoyed tacos for Taco Tuesday! If you missed out, make sure to sign up on for our newsletter on our homepage here and follow us on all of our social media. Don't forget we'll be volunteering at Wheels for Humanity this weekend to help refurbish wheelchairs! Contact Aidan, Eric or Eva for more information.
Thanks to everyone who came out to our Holiday Party! The competition was intense throughout all of the games and we had a blast watching everyone perform in the lip sync battle. We hope everyone enjoyed the good food and company! It's been a great quarter for BMES - we hope everyone had a great time getting to know your fellow BE's and were able to learn a lot about bioengineering!
Good luck on Finals, and see you at our Winter General Meeting in the new year! BMES has been busy with a variety of events over the past couple of weeks - thanks to everyone that's been making it out! In Week 6, freshly paired mentors and mentees were able to meet for the first time for a dinner on the Hill. Mentees were able to ask mentors for advice on what classes to take for the Winter quarter (as well as ask for the inside scoop on professors) while also getting to know one another. In Week 7, we were visited by ZS Associates, who gave us an inside look inside their company and what sets them apart from other consulting companies. Thank you to the representatives that came out - we enjoyed meeting all of you! In Week 8, we had another B3 event at Hawthorne where the kids learned about drug delivery through an activity where they had to 'Protect the Pill'. Back at UCLA, undergraduates learned how to write resumes and cover letters and got personal feedback from upperclassmen and graduate students with industry and research experience.
Stay strong, fellow BE's! It's nearing the end of the quarter, but to help you get through the next couple of weeks, we have our Annual Holiday Party in Week 10 on December 1st! Save the date, 'cause there will be great food and awesome games. Thanks to everyone that came to our first B3 event of the year! We had a brand new batch of kids at Hawthorne and a new room to work in. This week, the students were able to extract DNA from strawberries while learning about DNA and bioengineering. Much thanks also to Dr. Kamei for organizing the Graduate School Infosession this week. We learned a lot about how to get into grad school and grad school life from current graduate students. Thanks for all of your wisdom and life advice!
Hope everyone has been staying strong through midterms! This week, we had an infosession with Accenture, who allowed us to practice our consulting skills through an example scenario. We hope everyone was able to learn as much as they could about consulting from the Accenture representatives - and enjoyed some delicious pizza while at it!
Thanks to everyone who came out to our Week 3 events, even during midterm season! This week, we had our first Mentor/Mentee mixer for the BMES Mentorship system. At this event, mentors and mentees were sorted based on their career goal interests. After a few ice breakers, mentees were allowed to ask mentors questions and request for a mentor pairing. We hope everyone was able to find a mentor/mentee that they can build strong mentorship relationships with! We had a great turnout at our Medtronic Neurovascular infosession as well. Much thanks to the company representatives that came out to introduce us to their company and their personal work experiences! If you're interested in consulting, make sure to check out our Accenture Infosession next week for internship and job opportunities!
Week 2 was a busy week for BMES! We started the week off strong with an infosession with Illumina, followed by our first Fall Science Vendor Expo. The Fall Science Vendor Expo allows UCLA researchers to learn and purchase top-of-the-line lab equipment and products from life science vendor companies. Held in the California NanoSystems Institute (CNSI), we had a total of 13 companies display their products to over 150 attendees. For more information on how to participate in our Spring Science Vendor Expo, visit our Science Vendor tab! On Saturday, we held our first major social event of the year, the Annual BMES Fall BBQ! Even with the hot weather, we had a great time playing games with fellow bioengineers, getting to know faculty, and eating great food. Next week, look out for our Mentor/Mentee Mixer and infosession with Medtronic!
